First things first, tell us about yourself

I'm originally from South Africa, my family immigrated to Australia in 2009. 11 years and 3 children later, it’s still the best decision we have made! I love Australia and the amazing life we have here.

What’s the story behind PB Catering?

PB Catering was originally started over 40 years ago as a Gourmet Basket supplier, but over the years developed into a fully-fledged catering company. I started working for the company in 2013 and when the previous owner decided she was ready to retire, she knew she could trust me with her baby, so offered me the opportunity of owning the company I had loved for years.

When I took over, I rebranded the business to make it my own, whilst retaining the genuine heart of the business, albeit with a few changes to improve our employee and customer experiences.

How about the business side of things?

We are a catering business specialising in weddings, corporate events and private functions. We cater for unique intimate dinners for 15 people up to events of more than 600 and everything in between.

I love dealing with the variety of clients that come to us, finding out what they want and making their dream come true. We love what we do and there is nothing better than knowing our work has made someone’s special day even more memorable.

Let’s get down to it…why Wollondilly?

When we were deciding where to live when we immigrated we instantly fell in love with the area. The people are laid back and friendly, always willing to have a word with a neighbour and help a friend out. Being a farming community, everyone knows how to work hard but also have a good time once the work is done for the day.

What’s your favourite thing about being a part of the Wollondilly Business Community?

Working with like-minded individuals. I'm part of the Wollondilly Tourism Association and I love how every member is always striving to do the right and best thing for Wollondilly as a whole. They support new business but also stand with family businesses that have been in the Dilly for generations.

Every business genuinely wants other businesses to thrive because they know their success brings people to the Dilly which in turn grows their business too.

What would your one piece of advice be for someone looking to start a business here?

Join the local associations, meet the locals and visit other businesses in the area. Your biggest asset will be the locals that support you no matter what.

And just for fun… if you had superpowers, what would they be?

My daughter actually asked me this same question the other day, lol. I said speed, when she asked why, I said because there is never enough time in the day to get everything day!
